What it builds

Charts make an invisible expectation visible, which is what lets a child self-direct instead of being reminded. The benefit is autonomy rather than compliance.

How to use it

• •Two to four tasks per day for ages 4–7; four to six for 8–12. Longer charts cannot be won and get abandoned.
• •Never remove a sticker already earned. A chart that goes backwards becomes a punishment record.
• •Chart actions, never dispositions: "ask for help when stuck" works, "have a good attitude" does not.
• •Retire it once the habit holds. That is the success condition, not the end of the intervention.

Age guidance

Ages 3–12, with far fewer tasks at the younger end.
