Ink-Efficient Printing
Also called: low-ink printing, printer-friendly design
Ink-efficient printing means designing a page so it uses minimal ink — no solid background fills, black-and-white line work, and outlines rather than filled shapes.
A single full-page colour background can use more ink than dozens of line-art pages. For a classroom printing thirty copies, that is the difference between a template being usable and being quietly abandoned.
It also matters for coloring pages specifically: the page should be white with black outlines, because the child supplies the colour. A coloring page with a tinted background is both wasteful and worse to colour on.
