About this book

Ninety-two hidden pictures. The answer is not a mark out of ten — it is a color.

Every one of the 4,806 sums was checked by computer before printing — and the key never changes: 3 means yellow on page 7 and on page 101. Start each puzzle by coloring the six key boxes — then every number has its color. A pencil-and-crayon book: both sides of every page are real puzzles.

Every square on every page holds one small problem. Work it out, look at the key at the top of the page, and the answer tells you which crayon to pick. Square by square, a duck, a rocket, a hot air balloon or a dinosaur arrives in color.

  • 92 puzzles, 92 different pictures — no picture is repeated anywhere in the book
  • Section 1 · Find the Number — no adding at all. Each square shows one numeral, so a four-year-old can start on page seven
  • Section 2 · Adding to 5 — every sum can be checked on one hand
  • Section 3 · Add & Take Away — adding and taking away, mixed, nothing above 10
  • Section 4 · Numbers to 20 — take-aways from the teens, and sums with three parts
  • Every section opens with a worked example that shows exactly what changed
  • The same six colors all the way through — 3 means yellow on page 7 and on page 101
  • A Coloring Path progress page: color a star for every finished section
  • Every finished picture printed small at the back, with the number in each square
  • Three Make Your Own pages — design a picture, write the problems, and make a puzzle to give away
  • A Certificate of Color-by-Number Champion to earn on the last page

Coloring checks itself: one wrong answer puts one wrong color in the middle of a picture, and children spot it before grown-ups do.

For ages 4–7, in a big 8.5 × 8.5 inch format. A pencil-and-crayon book: both sides of every page are real puzzles — no filler, no blank padding.
