Summer Camp at Home: A Themed Week-by-Week Plan

3 weeks · 15 days planned · free

Six weeks of unstructured summer is a long time to improvise. This plan gives three themed weeks you can run in any order, each built around a subject children already find interesting, with a printable for every day and no requirement to buy anything.

It is deliberately loose. Each day is one anchor activity and one printable, which takes about forty minutes — enough to give the day a shape without turning the holidays into school.

Week 1 — Ocean

Sea creatures, water, and what lives where.

  1. Monday

    Meet the ocean

    • Colour the ocean animals sheet and name each one
    • Fill a bowl with water and test what floats
  2. Tuesday

    Turtles

    • Colour the turtle page
    • Count how many seconds you can hold your breath — turtles manage minutes
  3. Wednesday

    Cutting practice

    • Cut out the wavy lines and call them waves
    • Stick them on paper to make a sea
  4. Thursday

    Counting the catch

    • Number tracing 1–10
    • Count things around the house in tens
  5. Friday

    Ocean gallery

    • Put the week's pages on the fridge
    • Award a certificate

Week 2 — Jungle

Big animals, loud noises, and where the rainforest is.

  1. Monday

    Into the jungle

    • Colour the jungle animals sheet
    • Find the rainforest on a map or globe
  2. Tuesday

    Lions

    • Colour the lion page
    • Practise the loudest roar — outside
  3. Wednesday

    Elephants

    • Colour the elephant page
    • Measure how tall an elephant is with a tape measure on the wall
  4. Thursday

    Jungle letters

    • Trace the alphabet
    • Find a jungle animal for as many letters as you can
  5. Friday

    Zigzag vines

    • Cut the zigzag sheet
    • Tape the strips up as hanging vines

Week 3 — Sky & space

Birds, butterflies, and everything above your head.

  1. Monday

    Birds

    • Colour the bird pages
    • Sit by a window for ten minutes and count the birds
  2. Tuesday

    Butterflies

    • Colour the butterfly page symmetrically — same on both wings
  3. Wednesday

    Shapes in the sky

    • Shape tracing
    • Find each shape in a cloud
  4. Thursday

    Higher numbers

    • Number tracing 11–20
    • Count how many steps to the top of the stairs
  5. Friday

    Camp closing

    • Make a folder of everything from all three weeks
    • Award the final certificate

Running it for real

  • One anchor activity a day is enough. A plan with three activities per day gets abandoned on day four.
  • Run the weeks in any order — they do not build on each other. Pick whichever theme the child is currently interested in.
  • The Friday gallery matters more than it looks. Finishing something and having it displayed is most of what makes the week feel like it counted.
  • Skip days without guilt. The plan is a menu, not a timetable.
